Synopsis
Caravaggio’s Shadow, directed by Michele Placido, is set in seventeenth-century Italy, where Michelangelo Merisi—known as Caravaggio—was famed for both his genius and his defiant character. A troubled, transgressive artist, he is forced into hiding after a death sentence and confronts the fear of execution that increasingly enters his paintings.
A portrait of a rebellious genius whose final years unfold between fear and inner demons, becoming a subversive icon that remains contemporary.
